RED MILLS Riders amongst Showjumping’s Elite at Olympia

Olympia, The London International Horse Show is the last major CSI5* to take place before Christmas. Riders from all around the globe gathered in London from the 12th to 18th December for a week of fantastic competitions including FEI World Cup Dressage, Driving and Showjumping.

The show kicked off on Tuesday with RED MILLS and Foran Equine Ambassador Heike Holstein being awarded a FEI Gold Badge of Honour for Dressage. FEI Badges of Honour for Dressage are awarded to those athletes who have been amongst the top 15 in Grand Prix at a CDIO.

  • Gold Badge –  In 14 CDIO
  • Silver Badge – In 10 CDIO
  • Bronze Badge – In 6 CDIO

The Santa Stakes was the first Showjumping competition. It was a great way to start the show for RED MILLS Riders with Eduardo Alvarez Aznar victorious aboard Fidux with a winning margin of 0.16 seconds. Also in the placings were RED MILLS Ambassadors Bertram Allen and Gin Chin van het Lindenhof in 7th and Scott Brash with Hello Shelby in 9th.

The highlight of Thursday was The Cayenne Puissance. It was a great spectacle going to a final height of 2m20. RED MILLS Rider Holly Smith and Quality Old Joker finished a brilliant joint second clearing a height of 2m10.

In The Levy Restaurant Snowman Stakes Scott Brash and Hello Mr President finished in 5th place in a time of 49.58 seconds. Eduardo Alvarez Aznar and Dollar Girl placed 6th in The Christmas Masters.

The Saturday evening competition was The Martin Collins Enterprises Christmas Tree Stakes. The winner of the class was RED MILLS and Foran Equine Ambassador Bertram Allen with Gin Chin van het Lindenhof in a time of 30.76 seconds.

The Longines FEI World Cup jumping competition saw only four competitors make it through to the jump-off over what proved to be a very difficult track. RED MILLS and Foran Equine Ambassador Scott Brash and the 16-year-old mare Ursula XII jumped a fabulous clear in round 1 to make it into the jump off where they finished second in a very quick time of 37.34 seconds. Also on the podium was RED MILLS Ambassador Edwina Tops-Alexander and Inca Boy van T Vianahof finishing on a time of 41.05 seconds. Also amongst the placings were Bertram Allen and Molly Malone V in 6th place and Eduardo Alvarez Aznar and Rokfeller de Pleville Bois Mar in 9th place.

Edwina Tops-Alexander having won at La Coruna and 3rd at Olympia sees her move to top of the standings on 50 points after Leg 8 of the Longines FEI World Cup – Jumping in the Western European league. Eduardo Alvarez Aznar is in 14th place on 29 points. Marlon Modolo Zanotelli lies in 21st position on 22 points with Bertram Allen following closely behind in 22nd position on 22 points. The Top 18 riders from the Western European league will compete in the World cup final set to be held in Paris from the 10th – 15th April 2018.

On the final day of competition at Olympia RED MILLS Rider Eduardo Alvarez Aznar finished joint-third on Dollar Girl in The Christmas Stocking Six Bar. To round off a fantastic week of competition for RED MILLS Riders, Edwina Tops-Alexander finished in 5th place in the Olympia Grand Prix with Inca Boy van T Vianahof as well as 6th place in the Holly Speed Stakes with Veronese Teamjoy
