RED MILLS were delighted to be a part of the RED MILLS Showing Ireland Masterclass on Saturday evening at Tattersalls Country House. It was a well-attended evening with approximately 90 people in attendance. The guest speakers on the night Richard Iggulden and David Tatlow are royalty of the showing world, with many accolades between them. Also a part of the panel of speakers was RED MILLS Nutritionist Rebecca Watson.
David Tatlow is probably one of the best known people on the English showing scene. He has done everything; 5 time national Point-to-Point Champion, trained group 1 winners, won at the royal show, Great Yorkshire, HOYS and this year was his 50th year coming to Dublin. He still feels the fulfilment in his ability that he can go into a field and pick a horse, that’s what he loves. He is also president of the Show Horse Association of Great Britain.
Richard Iggulden is extremely well known on the Irish showing scene, ridden 2 Dublin champions, Balmoral champions, Royal Highland champion. Won 52 RDS winners in all weight classes, 37 Balmoral winners, 23 champions and reserve champions at Dublin in the weight classes
Showing Ireland was created by a group of enthusiast who wanted to promote the ridden Show Hunter as it is a discipline in its own right. They want to give a better voice to it in the Irish equestrian scene. The objectives are clear, we want to:
- Promote the ridden hunter, to recognise that there is a genuine market place
- Encourage producers, owners and riders to promote the sport
- Want to work with RDS, ISA and HSI and all the agricultural shows to develop ways to assist the sport.
- Encourage new people
- Compile a list of judges from both Ireland and UK
Showing Ireland is for producers, riders and owners.
Jane Davis, Equine Brand Manager, Connolly’s RED MILLS said: “This is a really exciting initiative and it has been fantastic to see the support the RED MILLS Champion of Champions has received both at all the qualifiers and at the final.
There is huge skill and horsemanship involved in producing a show horse and good ring craft is a real art and this was showcased perfectly in the Final on Sunday, which produced a stunning line-up of horses. Hopefully it will encourage more people to participate next year and to put into action some of the fascinating insights that were picked up during the Showing Ireland Master Class on Saturday evening.
Like all disciplines, nutrition plays a key role in producing horses for the showring and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone again at the RED MILLS and Foran Equine stand at the Dublin Horse Show where our expert team will be on hand to answer any question or queries.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Showing Ireland committee, Tattersalls and all their team and all the breeders, owners, producers, riders and supporters who helped make year one a great success.”
