2017 RED MILLS Munster Grand Prix Launched

April 28, 2017

The Munster Region of Showjumping Ireland today confirmed that Connolly’s RED MILLS will continue their sponsorship of the Connolly’s RED MILLS Munster Grand Prix League for the eighth year since its commencement in 2010.

The announcement was made during a visit to the yard of the 2016 Munster Grand Prix Champion, Paul Beecher.

Speaking at the launch Paul Beecher said; “It’s vital that we continue to invest in our home shows. It’s critical that we hold our identity, as a nation we are renowned for our horses and riders and it’s so important that these leagues are put in place to give riders a platform to produce their horses, we greatly appreciate the support from Connolly’s RED MILLS which helps keep the Munster Grand Prix League going.”

“I went to Spain for six weeks on the Sunshine Tour before moving to Portugal. All the horse are home now and are fresh and well ahead of their first weekend back on home soil. I have a very nice horse Asti 71, he’s a new horse for us this year and he’ll step-up to the Munster Grand Prix League and I hope for a good campaign with him. I have another horse Loughnatousa Eric that I jumped last year and I will go between the Munster Grand Prixes and the National Grand Prixes with him, he had a good season last year, winning three of the Grand Prixes and second in two. I have another nice young horse, Glamestone, a 6yo, which we saw riding today, I am hoping to jump him in a couple of them this year to see where he is at. Like I say it’s very important to have the Connolly’s RED MILLS Munster Grand Prix league as a stepping stone for these horses, without it we’d be lost.”

The Connolly’s RED MILLS Munster Grand League is an integral part of the showjumping season, filling a big gap between the 1.10m and the 1.50m/1.60m classes, it attracts a broad range of riders from both the professional ranks to the experienced amateur. This year’s Munster Region Grand Prix League will consist of approximately twenty 1.35m classes which supports the industry by creating a market within the 1.35m band.
