The 2017 Dublin Horse Show kicks off at the RDS in Ballsbridge today (Wednesday) where one of the highlights will be the Connolly’s RED MILLS 7 & 8-year-old international competition with a mixture of Ireland’s top young horses and the top stars from around the globe.
A massive 276 combinations competed at the four qualifiers held at Barnadown, The Meadows, Mullingar, and Maryville. The 20 Irish qualified combinations were confirmed last month. They are now joined by up to 24 additional international entries from around the world. The impressive list of foreign visitors includes World No.3 Keven Staut from France, while America’s Laura Kraut returns to defend the title she won last year. Along with a strong Irish contingent, the start list also includes riders from Britain, Spain, Brazil, Canada, Switzerland and The Netherlands.
The RDS first introduced this innovative international competition for 7 & 8-year-old horses in 2010 and it has proven to be a huge success. From the outset, the competition was aligned closely with the RDS Equestrian Mission, to promote the production of top-class Show Jumping horses in Ireland.
Past winners of the Connolly’s RED MILLS 7 & 8-year-old International competition at the RDS include Lauren Hough (USA) with Lady Davos, Marlon Modolo Zanotelli (BRA) with EIS Isaura, and Ireland’s Cian O’Connor riding Aramis.

The opening Connolly’s RED MILLS international class takes place today at 6.30pm in the Simmonscourt arena at the RDS. This will be followed by a second qualifier on Friday morning in the RDS main arena at 10.30am. The 2017 Connolly’s RED MILLS 7 & 8-year-old international champion will be crowned on Sunday following the grand final which gets underway at 9 am in the main arena.
