With sleddog racing athletes from all over Ireland, competitors with up to eight dog racing teams will take to lough keys picturesque trails, with racing speeds of up to 25mph.
In attendance will be the Internationally Acclaimed Sleddog World Champion, Susanne Bojkovsky with her Eurohound Niva, along with International Vice President of Development Arild Eidsvold, and International Accredited Race Marshall Jarl Fladeby, both from the IFSS (International Federation of Sleddog Sports). Connolly’s RED MILLS, main sponsor of the event will be in attendance to advise on dog nutrition for the weekend.
Spectators are welcome to attend the races, which will begin at 9am each morning and are expected to continue until approximately 1pm.
Lough Keys café facility will be open each day, providing a birds eye view of the races from the viewing area.
Speaking from his home in Donegal, Colm Burns, President of the Irish Federation of Sleddog Sports said ‘We’ve had some great sleddog racers in recent years, but what perhaps sets apart this year’s field in the IFSS World Cup is the sheer number of strong competitors from around Ireland. One of the fastest sleddog racers in the world will be in attendance at Lough Key on the 1st and 2nd February. Following a winter of hard training, Irelands sleddogs are rearing to go to the races in Lough Key. I look forward to racing there with my six dog team of Alaskan Huskys. Lough Key has always been a favoured trail of mine.’
All spectators are asked to be cautious of passing sleddog teams at all times, and to keep clear of all forest trails during the races. Also, all visitors to the park are asked to keep all dogs on leads at all times during the two day event.
The Irish Federation of Sleddog Sports is Irelands Internationally Recognised Sleddog Racing organisation. The International Federation of Sleddog Sports is the World Governing Body of sleddog sports.
