The 2016 Irish Breeders Classic has been officially launched at Ballypatrick Stables in Tipperary, home to Irish Show Jumping Olympic athlete Greg Broderick, who won the Breeders Classic final in 2015 with six-year-old Irish Sport Horse Alberta Mist.
Open to four, five and six year-old horses, The Irish Breeders Classic boasts a prize fund of €50,000, making it the ‘Richest Young Horse Showjumping Competition in the World’.
This year’s Irish Breeders Classic runs from Wednesday, 31 August to Saturday, 3 September at Barnadown Stud near Gorey in Wexford.
The list of horses who have competed in the Irish Breeders Classic in the past is phenomenal and includes Rio 2016 Olympic Irish Sport Horse MHS Going Global. The impressive list of past participants also includes Limestone Grey, Codarco, Ard Ginger Pop, Talks Cheap, Castellana and Captain Caruso.
The title sponsors for the 2016 Irish Breeders Classic are Goresbridge Horse Sales, Connolly’s RED MILLS, Jim Bolger, The Stallion Company, Horse Sport Ireland, Irish Horse Gateway and Showjumping Ireland.
Irish Breeders Classic organiser Ronan Rothwell said: “Thankfully everyone seems to want The Irish Breeders Classic to grow as much as I do and it is because of the dedicated committee members and new and loyal sponsors this is happening. It’s a great example of what can be done when people pull in one direction for the industry. I would encourage everyone to send their business to our sponsors wherever possible, they are the ones that are helping the industry help itself.”
Goresbridge Select Foal Sale will take place before the IBC Grand final on Saturday, 3 September. Goresbridge Horse Sales will kindly contribute 2% of the commission of both the Select Foal Sale and Novembers Supreme Sale of Show Jumpers to the IBC prizefund.
Some sponsored lots will be sold prior to the foal action, with proceeds going to IBC prize fund. Some fantastic lots will be on offer, including nominations to Bertram Allen’s top stallions Hector Van d’Abdijhoeve, Romanov and Dino W, sponsored by The Stallion Company.
Gareth Connolly, Sales and Marketing Director of Connolly’s RED MILLS commented: “We are very proud to be sponsoring the Irish Breeders Classic for the second year running. It’s a fantastic show that is improving every year, ably headed by Ronan Rothwell along with his committee and the team in Barnadown. The list of winners and participants to date is very impressive, highlighted by none other than MHS Going Global going on to compete in Rio this year and we are very much looking forward to this year’s renewal.”
The ever popular Donkey Derby will take place on the Friday evening during which refreshments will be available in the Connolly’s RED MILLS Pavilion.
The 2016 Irish Breeders Classic will not be live streamed but will be free to view on IrishSport.TV after the event.
